Banking Benchmark Outlook

Benchmark your performance and boost your competitive positioning

In the latter years, the banking industry has witnessed a tremendous transformation, stemming from the constantly evolving Supervisory and Regulatory overarching framework, and, no less relevant, as a consequence of the ever-increasing compliance requirements, business and governance models review and fierce market disclosure mandatory obligations.

Undoubtedly, the implementation of a full-fledged European Banking Union and the adoption of a Single Rulebook, extended to all European financial institutions within the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) and in direct correlation with the relevant international standards and best practices, made it possible to achieve extremely important and fundamental objectives, offering clear-cut benefits in terms of market transparency and regulatory harmonization, posing a decisive step to place the different financial institutions on the same Level Playing Field.

PwC offers an easy and up-to-date access to data and peer-to-peer comparison

Leveraging its unquestionable expertise in the Banking industry, PwC developed a Benchmark tool specifically designed to take advantage of pivotal information publicly, and periodically, made available.

This tool is thought to enhance market in-depth analysis and provide our banking clients with instruments to easily handle and visualize big data, improving peer-to-peer comparisons and triggering relevant insights on different subjects.

Banking Benchmark Outlook tool highlights an extensive range of banking performance indicators, with a methodology based on:

  • granular information, based on thousands of data points;
  • tailored comparison, detailed bank-by-bank;
  • historical data;
  • customized dashboard;
  • continuous updates.

Our proposal

PwC provides access to the Banking Benchmark Outlook through the Engagement Center, a web-based platform design to collaborate and interact with the clients, in a secure and optimized environment.

The Information covered is updated according to the frequency rate of each source (annual for EBA and ECB reports, and bi-annual for the comprehensive market discipline package for banks).

The access to the tool is under an annual subscription, which includes the updates and permanente technical Support.

The fast and recent transformation within the Supervisory and Regulatory framework compels financial institutions and banking authorities to a very challenging disclosure:
  • market discipline: very demanding and comprehensive requirements for public disclosure;
  • massive amount of vital and relevant information;
  • supervisors periodically publish the results and conclusions of comprehensive exercises, in the aftermath of an extensive data collection;
  • annual and semi-annual publications on macroeconomic indicators affecting the EU Economy and the EU banking sector.
Comparison to peers should be embedded in the decision-making process, in order to identify:
  • gaps;
  • threats;
  • opportunities;
  • trends.

Methodology

Our methodology is based on the collection of a wide range of data, periodically released from different sources, through the use of ETL and visualization tools, namely Microsoft PowerBI and Alteryx.

Amongst the sources of information, we feed our databases with thousands of data points collected from several reports, studies and qualitative exercises, periodically released by the European Banking Authority (EBA) and the European Central Bank (ECB), as well as from the Information published by several European banks within Market Discipline framework.

The collected data is loaded, transformed and thoroughly aggregated in customized information clusters in order to provide the best visualization and comparison insights between banking peers and/or different periods of analysis.

The information provided on this platform is automatically obtained based on data periodically and publicly disclosed by the corresponding entities. This solution is for information purposes and is based on publicly available data, not representing any direct recommendation and not replacing the possible need for adequate professional judgment.

PwC will not be responsible for the data disclosed by the corresponding entities, for their accuracy or correction after the initial public disclosure, as well as for any damages or losses that may arise from decisions taken based on the elements presented here.
