1. Context and objectives

1. The PwC Consulting Challenge is an initiative organized by PricewaterhouseCoopers /AG – Assessoria de Gestão, Lda. (hereinafter referred to as PwC) which aims to promote and stimulate the Advisory area, challenging students from various colleges and universities to work together and propose a solution for a PwC case study.

2. The resolution of the case study presented will contribute to the personal development and training of the event participants.o.

3. The scope of the case study proposed for resolution falls within PwC's Management Consulting service.

4. Additionally, the event aims to recognize student profiles and select them to undertake an internship at PwC, based on their performance.

5. The competing teams must intervene before a panel of judges, with the aim of presenting the proposed solution to the case preseed.

6. The members of the winning team in each edition will be awarded with an invitation to an interview for a potential internship in the Advisory area of ​​PwC, in addition to a monetary prize (in the form of a FNAC voucher) and training (on a topic to be designated).

7. The Consulting Challenge FY25 will have two editions, in Porto and Lisbon.

2. Partnerships and Collaboration

1. The PwC Consulting Challenge relies on the collaboration, logistical and promotional support of the junior partner company at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, JuniFEUP, the Student Group of Engineering and Industrial Management of the Instituto Superior Técnico, NEEGI, the student association ShARE-UP and the junior company of the Instituto Superior Técnico, Junitec.

3. Definitions

For the purposes of this Regulation, the following definitions apply:

1. Team captain: person responsible for communication with PwC and who will be contacted whenever it is necessary to confirm any information.

2. Case: hypothetical situation, developed by members of the Consulting Business Unit, and which reflects a relevant issue within the scope of the area's activities.

3. Teams: groups composed of higher education students, with preference (but not exclusivity) for the areas of Management, Economics, Engineering and Finance.

4. Jury: panel of judges composed of 3 (three) professionals appointed by the PwC Advisory area, selected to evaluate the participants' performance in resolving the proposed case study

5. Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I]: first phase of the event, corresponding to the more quantitative and analytical evaluation phase. More information about this phase of the event is provided below.

6. Consulting Challenge: Crafting Solutions [Part II]: second phase of the event, corresponding to the more qualitative evaluation phase. More information about this phase of the event is provided below.

4. Student Eligibility

1. All students are eligible to apply for the PwC Consulting Challenge, with preference given to students from one of the following years:

a) 3rd year of Bachelor’s Degree; 

b) 1st year of Master’s Degree; 

c) 2nd year of Master’s Degre.

2. Students must register in teams of 4 (four) to 5 (five) students.

3. A maximum of 20 teams from each location (Porto and Lisbon) will be accepted to participate in the Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I]. Should the number of entries exceed this number, PwC reserves the right to select the teams to participate by analyzing the candidates’ CVs.

4. Additionally, and throughout all phases of the Consulting Challenge, PwC reserves the right to select only students whose profiles and characteristics are considered relevant and who demonstrate the desired quality in solving the challenges.

5. For the Consulting Challenge: Crafting Solutions [Part II] phase, 6 (six) teams will be selected, according to the performance and evaluation verified in the Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I] phase.

6. Candidates must meet these requirements by the closing date for applicatios.

5. Applications and team selection

1. Teams may submit their applications until May 5th, 2025. Applications are submitted through the PwC Portugal website, using the form provided.

2. For the registration to be considered valid, the following mandatory information indicated on the registration form must be provided completely and unequivocally:

a) Team name;

b) Number of members (4 or 5 elements);

c) Captain;

d) Individual information from each participant:

i. Full name;

ii. E-mail;

iii. University attended;

iv. Course attended;

v. Academic degree of the course attended;

vi. Year of the course attended;

vii. Curriculum Vitae (PDF format);

3. When completing the application, the team must ensure that each member complies with the Declaration of Commitment and the Declaration of Image and Personal Data Rights.

a. The Declaration of Commitment confirms the presence of all members of each team in the Consulting Challenge: Crafting Solutions [Part II] phase of the Consulting Challenge, should the team be selected for this phase.

b. The Declaration of Image and Personal Data Rights allows PwC to capture, with the consent of all participants, images and videos throughout the event.

4. If the application does not meet the mandatory requirements and/or does not contain all the mandatory information, the registration will be considered invalid and the team will not be considered for participation in the PwC Consulting Challenge.

5. Teams accepted for the Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I] will be notified by May 6th, 2025. Participants will be sent a confirmation of their registration for the PwC Consulting Challenge.

6. The Competition may be cancelled at any time, without any liability for PwC Portugal.

6. Consulting Challenge phases and schedule

1. The PwC Consulting Challenge is divided into two main phases: Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I] and Consulting Challenge: Crafting Solutions [Part II].

2. Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I] is a preliminary phase of the case study and aims to qualify 6 (six) teams for the Consulting Challenge: Crafting Solutions [Part II] phase. This will be held virtually.

3. The Consulting Challenge: Crafting Solutions [Part II] corresponds to the final phase of the event, and will be held in person at PwC's offices in Porto and Lisbon.

The dates, locations and means of communication identified for each phase are indicative and may be subject to change, to be communicated by email to all candidates.

5. This Competition will have a maximum duration of 15 (fifteen) days. For the purposes of counting the period referred to in the previous number, the following should be considered:

a) Start – date of presentation of the Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I] and,

b) End – final session of the Consulting Challenge: Crafting Solutions [Part II].

7. Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I]

1. The PwC Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I] consists of 3 distinct phases and objectives:

a) Presentation of PwC - initial moment for participants to familiarize themselves with the company and clarify any doubts;

b) Testimonials - presentation of testimonies from winners and participants of previous editions of the PwC Consulting Challenge and clarification of doubt;

c) Presentation of the Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I] - dissemination of the statement and clarification of rules regarding the resolution.

2. The rules for participating in the Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I] are presented below:

a. To solve the Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I], support files will be provided after the presentation (that might be written in portuguese);

b. Consultation of external sources of information is not foreseen. If participants choose to include information in their resolution that is not present in the materials provided, and if this information is not relevant, it will be disregarded in the evaluation;

c. Teams will have 24 (twenty-four) hours to solve the Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I] and prepare their presentations;

d. Team solutions must be prepared in presentation format (e.g. Powerpoint, Google Slides, etc.), and supporting materials must also be sent in Excel/Power BI/another tool used;

e. Case presentations and solutions must be in English and must have a maximum of 5 (five) slides;

f. Ater the case has been resolved, one member of each team must send the presentation to the indicated email address by 1:00 pm on the indicated day;

g. The announcement of the teams selected for the Consulting Challenge: Crafting Solutions [Part II] will be made after the evaluations of the presentations of all teams from the Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I] have been completed;

3. The resolution of the Consulting Challenge: Crack the Data [Part I] will be evaluated by the distinguished jury and the teams selected for the Consulting Challenge: Crafting Solutions [Part II] phase will be communicated to the participants. 6 (six) teams will be selected for this phase.

8. Consulting Challenge: Crafting Solutions [Part II]

1. The Consulting Challenge: Crafting Solutions [Part II] phase will take place in person, at PwC's facilities. In the Porto edition, this phase will take place at the Porto Office (Porto Office Park, Av. de Sidónio Pais 93, 4100-467 Porto). In the Lisbon edition, this phase will take place at the Lisbon Office (Palácio Sottomayor, Av. Fontes Pereira de Melo nº16, 1050-121 Lisboa)

2. Participation rules:

a. External sources of information should not be consulted;

b. The teams will have 3 (three) hours to resolve the case and prepare their presentations, using the resources provided by PwC (flipcharts and complementary material);

c. The presentation will have the following format:

i. 7 minutes for the team to make their presentation;

ii. 7 minutes for the jury to ask questions

d. All team members must participate either in the presentation phase of the case study solution or in the jury question phase;

e. The results will be announced at the end of the day, after all presentations have been completed.

9. External support to the Teams

1. The presence of any Team members, coaches or assistants in sessions other than those in which the Team participates is not permitted.

10. Jury of the Consulting Challenge

1. The Consulting Challenge Jury will be made up of 3 (three) members appointed by PwC.

2. The Jury makes decisions by majority and its decisions are sovereign and irreversible, and cannot be subject to complaints or appeals.

3. The PwC Consulting Challenge Jury reserves the right to distinguish only those students/teams whose content produced at the event meets the distinction requirements considered essential by them and which demonstrate the desired quality.

11. Assessment

Each Team's performance is recorded according to the official grids provided by PwC.

12. Prize

1. Depending on the performance of the teams during the Consulting Challenge, the following prizes will be awarded to their respective members:

1st place: cash prize of 300 (three hundred) euros in FNAC vouchers, training given by the PwC team (topic to be defined) and an interview with all team members, with the possibility of awarding an internship (nature to be defined) to one or more team members;

2nd place: cash prize of 150 (three hundred) euros in FNAC vouchers, training provided by PwC (theme to be defined);

3rd place: training provided by the PwC team (theme to be defined);

2. PwC reserves the right to only award these prizes to teams and their students whose profile and characteristics reveal the skills considered.

13. Omitted cases

1. All cases not covered by these Regulations will be resolved by the jury and, additionally, by the PwC team.

14. Authorization

1. PwC, as the Data Controller for the processing of personal data, undertakes to comply with national and European legislation, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), applicable at any given time in terms of the protection of personal data.

2. PwC will collect the following personal data:

i. Full name;

ii. E-mail;

iii. University you attend;

iv. Course you are attending;

v. Academic degree of the course attended;

vi. Year of the course attended;

vii. Curriculum Vitae (PDF format).

3. PwC will collect and process the personal data identified above for the following purposes:

i. registration and participation of team members;

ii. advertising and promoting the event;

iii. for possible recruitment purposes.

4. In accordance with current legislation on the protection of personal data and within the scope of the purposes described, Team members expressly authorize PwC, through their registration in the competition, to collect their data for the purposes indicated in points i) and ii).

5. PwC, as Data Controller, collects the personal data of Team members for possible recruitment purposes, based on the execution of pre-contractual due diligence, in accordance with Article 6, paragraph 1, paragraph b) of the GDPR.

6. PwC will share the data identified in number 2 with the competition judges, PwC Consulting Team and PwC Human Resources department.

7. PwC undertakes not to process personal data for purposes other than those specified.

8. Any questions related to how PwC processes the data subject's personal data can be consulted in our Privacy Policy and/or sent to the email pt_pt_data_office@office.com.

9. In accordance with the legislation on Personal Data Protection, data subjects may exercise their rights of access, rectification, erasure, opposition, limitation and portability by requesting this in writing, by email to pt_consulting_recrutamento@pwc.com or to the email address pt_pt_data_office@pwc.com, or through our Privacy Portal, and must, in any case, prove their identity and specify the right or rights they wish to exercise.

10. Team members also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.

11. The personal data of the team members will be retained for the duration of the event, unless a longer period is required by law, and for a period of 2 years for recruitment purposes.

15. Data protection

1. Under the terms of the legislation on personal data protection in force and in order to allow the performance of the activities related to this Regulation, the Teams expressly authorize PwC, within the scope of the purposes described in this Regulation, specifically, registration, participation, advertising in accordance with point 12.2, and recruitment, to use their personal data.

2. In accordance with the legislation on Personal Data Protection, you may exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, opposition, limitation and portability by requesting this in writing, by email to pt_consulting_recrutamento@pwc.com, and in any case, you must prove your identity and specify the right or rights you wish to exercise.

3. The elements have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.

4. Your personal data will only be kept for the period necessary to achieve the purposes described.
